Everyday consumers, particularly older Americans, are lured into social engineering scams via clickbait ads promising the secrets of investing, malicious redirects warning that their computers have been hacked, or some other scam. He too clicked on a clickbait ad and talked to scammers who persuaded him to install AnyDesk on his computer.

The industry is looking to fix this; there is talk among trade bodies about working to formulate a definition, and the ANA is conducting a follow-up study where MFA will be more clearly defined. Therefore clickbait is not necessarily MFA, as long as it is actively serving a community or deployed alongside actual news.

Whenever the user is browsing, they will get a small pop-up at the top of their screen asking them if they’d like to allow push notifications. If they don’t then the pop-up disappears and that’s it. It doesn’t even disrupt the user experience as it’s not a huge in-your-face pop-up. Don’t use Clickbait.
